| Many people ask me if my cockapoo puppies take more after the cocker or poodle. As a breeder that has done quite a bit of study on genetics in regards to my dogs, I have a real hard time answering this question without addressing particular traits. The Cocker breed and the poodle breed are two breeds that have been so well set over time, that the first generation usually produces a unique "breed". Most of my cocker lines carry high quality AKC show lines behind them and it tends to make my puppies have more of a teddy bear look than cockapoos that are bred from lower quality lines. The main reason is because of excellent coat quality, and the shorter faces that give them that cute and cuddly look that we love. Another question I get is about the coat in reference to shedding. Of the cockapoos that I have sold or kept, there are a very few that shed a small amount, but most of them do not seem to shed at all. A cocker is already a very low shedding breed, and poodles do not shed. This mix is excellent for families due to their wonderful disposition, personable nature, and high intelligence. |
